The 2009 Polar Bear Plunge at Seaside Heights is just a few months away. As of now, the date is set for Saturday, February 28th 2009. If you’re unaware of what exactly this event is; it’s a fund raiser for the special Olympics. Basically, you harass your friends until they give you money and then you run into the ocean when the air temperature is around freezing and the water temperature is pretty close.
If you’ve been following the story of Joe and myself over the past few years, then you’re aware that he is now my legal little brother.
I’m proud to say that this new environment for Joe has paid off. His grades have improved dramatically since last year. Joe is already an A/B student, with not a single grade lower than a B average. It’s incredible what a good environment and new friends can do for you.
Joe is now seriously considering enlisting in the U.S. Navy to hep further his future and education.
Thank you to everyone who donated toward the New York City MS Bicycle Ride!
It was a rough day that started off at 5:15am. I was up and cooking breakfast before the sun showed it’s face. As I leashed up Diesel and prepared for his morning walk, I stepped outside to witness a slight sprinkle along with a brisk 50 Degree temperature. After picking up some of Diesel’s logs, I made it back inside to finish preparing my bike for the ride.
We stepped outside at 6:00am to a cold morning that was now pouring rain. “This day is going to suck,” I quietly thought to myself. Julie and I rode off toward the PATH train which would take us into NYC. As we entered the path, there were dozens of other bikers down there already waiting for the train. Normally I hate doing this, but with the market being awesomer (not a word) than ever, I figured, why not. I am doing a 60-mile bike ride around NY and NJ on October 5th for The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Your donation will provide comprehensive support services, educational programs, and fund a national research initiative into the cause, treatments and cure for this chronic disease.
The 60-mile bike route includes: the FDR, Harlem River Drive, the West Side Highway, through the Lincoln Tunnel, the Palisades Interstate Park and the George Washington Bridge. It’s probably safe to say I’ll be good and tired when I’m done!
A few months ago, I came across an advertisement for the NYC Century (which took place yesterday). This is a bicycle ride that covers 100 miles of ground through Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. I thought it sounded like a blast, so I signed up and talked CJ, Mark and LJ in to doing so as well.
On Saturday night, CJ and I stayed at Mark’s apartment in Englewood. We all ordered tons of pasta to carb load in preparation for Sundays ride.
My internal alarm went off at 4:20am on Sunday morning, which was a full 20 minutes before my alarm was set to go off on my phone. Mark’s apartment felt like 60 degrees and somehow I managed to drag myself off the couch. After quickly cleaning up and tossing on some spandex, we ate a quick breakfast, had some coffee and filled our water bottles. Read the rest of this entry »
As many of you know, I’ve been Joey’s “Big Brother” since 2005. Well, I haven’t updated anything on him in quite some time due to problems on his end.
Around July of 2007, Joe moved in with a new family that turned out to be a horrible living environment. After serious complications in July 2008 and nowhere to turn, he came to me for help.
I took Joe out of his home on July 21st and put him into my mothers home where he’s been ever since. Since then, we’ve spent alot of time talking about important things in life and what being a man is really about.
I’m proud to say that after a little time and dedication, Joseph is now legally my little brother. Today, after 8 hours of sitting in a courtroom, my mother gained legal custody of Joseph. He is already working and starts a new high school next week.
Finally, Joe has a safe and great living environment.
